Jackie Mills

is a Peer Educator with the Substance Abuse Prevention Teen Theater.  He first came in contact with the team when he was only 9 or 10 and saw a music video being made by teens in at the local Dunbar Neighborhood Center in the Mechanicsville Area of Atlanta where he lives.

A younger Jackie excitedly asked Ms. Charlotte Cain, Aritst-In-Residence of the Substance Abuse Prevention Teen Theater (S.A.P.T.), "can I be in the video?"...Ms. Cain obliged.

Little did she know that 5 years later Jackie would join SAPT, a programmed offered to youth ages 12 to 18 years old.  S.A.P.T teens first become Peer Educators on subjects such as Drug, Crime, Violence and HIV/Aids prevention.  They then with the guidance of Ms Cain create and perform dramatic skits with power-packed information to enlighten and entertain the community.  Poetry is a large part of SAPT and all of the youth are encouraged to write poetry as well as other creative writing.  The entire program is facilitated by the Wholistic Stress Control Institute.

Jackie was not sure if he was a poet when he was first asked to write a poem.  He later found that not only can he write poems but he placed as a finalist in the 15-year old category for the V-103 "Got Word Poetry Contest" and was one of 2 teens to be invited on the radio for a live interview and reading of his poem.  Jackie hosted a stage on one at one of the largest streets festivals in the Southeast..."the Sweet Auburn Sproingfest 2007" and Jackie was also a featured poet at the National Black Arts Festival 2007.

Jackie has been getting bookings throughout the Metro Atlanta area through SAPT at Boys & Girls Clubs, YMCA's, Black Women's Wellness, The Center For Working Families and more.  Jackie is one of the most popular with the audiences.  He is currently working on a CD Album for release soon.
